Her mom, Terri Buelman, says she was surprised and overjoyed when she realized the cashier knew and used <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sign_language" target="_blank">sign language</a>.<br /><br /><br /><br />Buelman says it was the first time Cynthia was able to order something without feeling uncomfortable with people staring at her.<br /><br /><br /><br />"People just look at her, then they look at us at what we do, so we had to order for her," explains the mom about previous situations.<br /><br /><br /><br />Buelman says they heard about a cashier at Chick-fil-A who knew sign language and had helped other <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hearing_loss" target="_blank">Deaf and Hard of Hearing</a> customers with their orders.<br /><br /><br /><br />When they went there, they found Taylor Anez, a high school senior. After hesitating, Cynthia started signing and was surprised when Anez signed back. It was a monumental step of freedom for the young woman.<br /><br /><br /><br />The restaurant manager didn't know Anez could sign, but the young cashier says her relatives are Deaf and she learned so she could communicate with them.<br /><br /><br /><br />Cynthia's story and the video have gone viral. I’m very excited someone was out there to communicate with her.”<br /><br /><br /><br />Raleigh police blocked all lanes near Rock Quarry Road starting around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. The girl came off the bridge around 4:45 p.m. She was unharmed, police said, and was being evaluated at a local crisis center.<br /><br /><br /><br />Daley says her daughter “got upset and said she was going to hurt herself” after Daley took away her phone. The popular messaging app has been linked to a growing number of child sexual abuse cases.<br /><br /><br /><br />The officer has declined to be identified and the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raleigh_Police_Department" target="_blank">Raleigh Police Department</a> says they have no <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Sign_Language" target="_blank">American Sign Language</a> training program. The officer learned how to sign on his own, police say.<br /><br /><br /><br />One of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Carolina_Department_of_Transportation" target="_blank">North Carolina Department of Transportation</a> cameras picked up the officer making gestures to the girl.
