Deaf/Blind Teen Brutally Beaten By TSA Agents

She didn’t understand what they were about to do,” her mother Shirley Cohen told <a href="http://wreg.com/2016/06/30/disabled-st-jude-patient-sues-airport-and-tsa-after-bloody-scuffle-with-airport-police/" target="_blank">WREG</a>.<br /><br /><br /><br />The lawsuit claims before Hannah had brain tumor surgery at St. Jude’s hospital, she already had “a physical and mental impairment that substantially limit one or more of her life activities.”<br /><br /><br /><br />“More particularly,” the lawsuit continues, “Hannah has damage from radiation and removal of a brain tumor that substantially limits her ability to speak, walk, stand, see, hear, care for herself, learn and work, think, concentrate, and interact with others.”<br /><br /><br /><br />“This substantial limitation is obvious upon sight and was obvious” on the day of the incident, the lawsuit filed in US District Court states.<br /><br /><br /><br />“She’s trying to get away from them,” Hannah’s mother described, “but in the next instant, one of them had her down on the ground and hit her head on the floor. And I looked and there’s blood everywhere.”<br /><br /><br /><br />All the while Shirley was kept from being able to help her daughter, causing her “extreme emotional injury as she watched the personnel assault her daughter,” according to court documents obtained by Infowars.<br /><br /><br /><br />The <a href="http://www.flymemphis.com/airport-police" target="_blank">Memphis International Airport Police Department</a> is also included as a defendant in the suit for “arresting her for no cause.”<br /><br /><br /><br />“Hannah was arrested, booked and on the night she should have been celebrating the end of her treatment, she was locked up in Jail East,” reports WREG.<br /><br /><br /><br />“Here we were with nowhere to go, not even a toothbrush, our bags had gone to Chattanooga,” Shirley said.<br /><br /><br /><br />TSA did not comment on the case, but referred travelers with special accommodations to call their TSA Cares hotline. Deaf Man's 911 Text Saves House From Fire

That's why some communities have started allowing people to <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Next_Generation_9-1-1" target="_blank">text 911</a>.<br /><br /><br /><br />Residents in <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oakland_County,_Michigan" target="_blank">Oakland County</a> are allowed to text 911 and a message will appear on a screen for a dispatcher to read. A <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hearing_loss" target="_blank">Deaf</a> Rochester Hills man said the texting system saved his house from burning down.<br /><br /><br /><br />The fire started when the man's mother, Mary Powers, tried to clean the oven.<br /><br /><br /><br />"I smelled something and I came out here and the oven was on fire," Powers said.<br /><br /><br /><br />She ran back in the room to tell her son, Scott Powers, to get help.<br /><br /><br /><br />"I told him to call 911," she said.<br /><br /><br /><br />Her son pulled out his cellphone but didn't dial.<br /><br /><br /><br />"That means text because he's Deaf," Powers said.<br /><br /><br /><br />"I'm Deaf, I can't talk on the phone, need fire department immediately," the text read.<br /><br /><br /><br />The text went right through to operators at the <a href="https://www.oakgov.com/sheriff/Pages/about/div_emergency_dispatch.aspx" target="_blank">Oakland County Dispatch Center</a>.<br /><br /><br /><br />Oakland County has been equipped with the 911 text messaging for just over a year. They average around 12 emergency text messages a day. Scott Powers owns his house and is thankful the county can accommodate his needs.<br /><br /><br /><br />"I like to be independent without depending on other people," he said. "I used to think, 'What would I do if my house was on fire?' The first thing I used to think was, 'Run to my neighbor.'"<br /><br /><br /><br />He's fortunate to live in an area where he can get emergency help. He hopes other communities will get on board with the technology.<br /><br /><br /><br />"When I'm on the road visiting a friend, sometimes it doesn't work," Powers said. "I'll text 911. I'd get a response back saying it's not available."<br /><br /><br /><br />This was the first time the Rochester Hills Fire Department benefited from the 911 text. He said that they took him to a restaurant and ordered food which cost him a few hundred dollars. The cheque the couple issued however, eventually bounced.<br /><br /><br /><br />Several others who commented on Dave’s comment suggested that the woman and her husband would do anything to score a free meal.<br /><br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="360" src="http://www.liveleak.com/ll_embed?f=86200dfb10ad" width="500"></iframe></div><br /><br /><a href="https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=1020917287945934&id=116960455008293&substory_index=0" target="_blank">Another Facebook user who identified himself as a property agent</a> described the couple as ‘phony buyers”. He asked fellow agents to beware of the couple saying they bought from “PropNex and Huttons agents ranging from 2-4 units as bulk purchases,” but that all their cheques from various banks bounced.<br /><br /><br /><br />He identified the couple as Alice and Chong Meng Chew. This Facebook user also released their personal details like address and phone numbers. He advised other agents to demand only Cashier’s Order from the couple if they ever come forward to buy any realty in the future.<br /><br /><br /><br />“I apologise for the behaviour but I was having a bad cold that day, and I didn’t know that the cleaner was deaf and mute,” Fong told Chinese newspaper Shin Min today (5 Jun). In the video shared by Euphemia Lee of the incident however, Fong was heard implying, “he is old, he is Deaf and he is dumb, so? I must give in to him? I don’t understand!”<br /><br /><br /><br />Fong told the Chinese newspaper earlier today that she had taken half-day off from work on that day as she was feeling unwell. She had also noticed “something dirty” in the food she had finished eating, and wanted to take a picture of it to complain. He types for a bit and then makes eye contact with the viewer.<br /><br /><br /><br />LINSAY: Reading newspapers is one of the pastimes that <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hearing_loss" target="_blank">Deaf</a> people loved to do. The first official publication from the Deaf community was the American Annals for the Deaf that was widely circulated. Deaf people could follow what was happening in Deaf communities across the nation. Eventually, different schools for the Deaf would start their own paper; these papers shared opinions, discussions and stories. That prompted many Deaf people living in different areas to develop a sense of mutual cooperation which led up to the establishment of the National Association of the Deaf. These papers included entertaining stories, articles that started discussions on the issues that affected the schools of thought of the day, poems, and general news. A Deaf person in one place probably would read about the person they were familiar with in other area of America and so forth.
